  1. from Jan/Feb NEWS:

The Constitution Committee shall "receive all proposals for amending the Constitution and the International Standing Rules, make recommendations for changes to the Administrative Board, and present approved proposals to the international convention for vote." (Constitution VII.B.1) In accordance with this mandate, members at the 2008 International Convention in Chicago, Illinois voted to amend the International Standing Rules. The changes may be found on the International website (www.deltakappagamma.net) under “publications.”

2008-2010 Constitution Committee members met in Austin in November, 2008. Preparations began for 2009 Regional Conferences and for accepting proposals for amendments to the Constitution and International Standing Rules. International committees, state organizations, chapters, and members may propose changes to our governing documents. Suggested changes will be studied by the committee and forwarded to the Administrative Board for its consideration. Proposals and Administrative Board recommendations will then be published in the  NEWS. Proposed amendments will be brought to the membership for vote at the 2010 International Convention in Spokane, WA.

Forms for submitting proposed changes may be downloaded from the Society website (www.deltakappagamma.net) or requested from state or chapter presidents. Mail the completed form prior to October 1, 2009, to Catherine Davis, Chairman, at the address on the form.

A motion was made, seconded and approved at the 2008 International Convention to allow the 2008-2010 Constitution Committee to undertake a revision of the Constitution and The International Standing Rules if the Administrative Board approved such action. The proposed revision is to be presented to the 2010 convention for approval. In November, the committee studied the governing documents in great detail and found some revision appropriate and necessary at this time in our Society. The Administrative Board did approve the motion.

Recognizing the huge amount of preparation, interviews, collaboration, collection of information, research and gathering of input from members involved, along with the creation of a draft of the new governing documents, President Carolyn Rants appointed an ad hoc Revision Committee to assist the Constitution Committee in the endeavor. Members of the current Constitution Committee will serve a dual role. They will accept and review proposals for amendments to the current governing documents and include the proposals when considering the new proposed documents. They will also be working with the Revision Committee in creating the draft of a new document for presentation and vote at the 2010 International Convention.

Make plans to attend the Constitution workshops at the 2009 Regional Conferences. Information on both processes will be shared at that time. Participants will have opportunities to give their input and share their ideas. Members are encouraged to “activate their vision” by contacting any member of the committee with concerns, ideas, and/or questions. Contact information is available on the Society website at www.deltakappagamma.net
